Design Sport Sport Design #2

Overnight I’ve redirected my thinking to a slightly different line of enquiry. I began to think that I was not so much talking about art, but rather, the concept of applied design thinking and it’s ability to visually impact sport.

And so I guess the question begs – how do we recognise good design? What’s aesthetically pleasing to me may not be to others. Huge and endless question to ponder. However, in this context I’m going to put forward that design does matter (of course I’m a director of a design studio!!) and as a community, as a collective, we do recognise it in the form of trends. And trends, fashion, have a nature of evolving in the most wonderful ways and then trickling down to the masses :)

Take the trend of Fixies and the resurgence of Brooks of England. Isn’t this beautiful. Doesn’t it make you want to wrap a scarf around your neck, wear leather patches on your elbows and drift down a country lane. This is a story of design falling off the radar, being found once more and gently repackaged for a new market. The tone is spot on. It oozes honesty. You can smell the leather….on line….or the flip side – , be cool and 15 in your Vanns – watch Arch’s vid.Either way, it’s enough to make you give up gears.

Here’s the link – cos there’s an issue with music license…..
