Thinking About Strategy
Introducing: On, Not In
Project On. Not In, is a new initiative currently underway in the studio. Sounds exciting huh? It is, so we want to keep you in the loop from start to finish, so you can see all the interesting things that happen in between.
Going back 2 weeks, everyone in the studio was put into pairs and instructed to brainstorm an idea that would propel the business forward, in any way that could be justified as beneficial to Blueboat. Fast forward to yesterday – each of the 4 pairs presented their idea to Sally-Ann and Georgina to get feedback on how viable the idea was, and the next steps towards its implementation.

So, here’s what we came up with *drum roll please*
Allie & Alicia
Allie and Alicia presented a really well thought out idea around connecting with people in different parts of the world who are influential and inspirational on the topic of communications. As a design studio, it’s always really important to show our clients how design can enhance and enable their communications, making this a winning idea.
Fiona & Ben – Project Spotlight
With the launch of the new website approaching, Fiona and Ben presented… well, themselves: Ben and Fiona, our new PR department! This project focuses around the belief that at Blueboat, we do great work for great people, and up until now, we haven’t really shared it. Project Spotlight involves publishing folio work to design sharing websites and applying for awards appropriate to finished projects.
Shanthi & Katie – 6 Degrees
Shanthi and I based our project around the idea that everyone is connected by 6 degrees, and in our increasingly networked world, the number 6 is shrinking. We wanted to highlight the great culture and collaborative working style we have at Blueboat, and share it with the creative community by using our connections to set up a speaker night at the studio.
Iris & Andrew – Open Process
Andrew and Iris presented an out-of-the-box idea around opening up and sharing our process with others through taking on entrepreneurial clients who were happy to have their brand-building journey documented and posted online.
At the end of the presentations, each pair had the green light from Sal and feedback on how to take their projects forward. Stay tuned over the next few weeks to see our projects begin to unfold. As some of our projects involve the local creative community, you might also find yourself with the opportunity to be involved in our project: On. Not in.
