Inspiration for the long weekend
Here are a few exhibitions I got the chance to check out over a few weekends ago and are definitely worth checking out especially if you’re in the city over the long weekend.
Monet’s Garden at NGV

This is a gorgeous exhibition of Claude Monet’s artworks inspired by his life-long obsession with nature and reflection. Seeing the artwork in person really makes a difference – there’s this luminescent glow in his pieces that pictures or images online just don’t do any justice. Give yourself plenty of time going through several lovely pastel coloured rooms filled with Monet’s masterpieces and be taken onto a journey for his love of nature, and colour.
You can find tickets here and if you can’t make it to this exhibition over the long weekend, not to fret, it’s on all til 8 September.
Hollywood Costume at ACMI

It’s an exhibition displaying great costumes from different feature films (yup, got to see Jake Gyllenhaal’s costume from Brokeback… we were practically in the same room)
Aside from the costumes, I think it’s worth checking out for one section of the exhibition with the multimedia work. I really enjoyed the way they displayed the thinking behind costume design thru awesome projections onto objects and the interviews were showcased in a really engaging way (quite similar to Candice Breitz’s The Character exhibition).
This exhibition runs til 18 August and you can find tickets here (if you want to save yourself from being in a long queue for tickets, I’d recommend pre-booking!)
Have a lovely long weekend, friends of the boat! If you do check these exhibitions out, feel free to share with us your experience and insights!
